Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Conference

Sharing the Stories, History is Ours to Tell

The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Conference focuses on the research about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad as represented by the rich, cross cultural, multi-racial, multi-state stories rooted in intricate relationships based on family, freedom, community, and faith.  This conference invites historians, students, educators, genealogists, researchers, artists, musicians and community members to share and compare research, history research methods, interpretation, curriculum ideas, and creative artistic expressions with a growing community of enthusiasts.

This year we are seeking proposals focusing on the Underground Railroad, slavery, Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass histories related to people, places and events throughout Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, New England and Canada.  Stories from other areas of the country are also welcome.  We encourage broadly conceived, or narrowly focused presentations that inform, educate, challenge, and engage a broad audience. With this being the 200th Anniversary of Frederick Douglass and recognizing his history on the Eastern Shore we hope to have a fine selection of workshop sharing his story from different points of view.
